There are two Betts families with links to the Fairhalls, and both originated in the Cambridgeshire region of England.

1. John and Anne (Fitch) Betts of Suffolk, England. Their great-grandson James Betts and his wife Frances (nee Goodchild) arrived in Sydney in 1858 on board the "Castilian" and became farmers in the Kempsey area. Prior to their immigration to Australia, the family had lived in Essex and Cambridgeshire.

2. John and Elizabeth (Winterton) came from Cambridgeshire to New South Wales. Their link is via the Sheather family. They travelled to Sydney on board the "Talavera" in 1853 with three children, and the family settled on the north coast in the Manning River region.
